Singing is solace for Soweto healthcare volunteers
Volunteer health workers in Soweto - who provide home-based care for more than 700 local residents - have begun using song and dance as part of their outreach. For a long time, songs were just another part of the care of local residents – many of whom are HIV positive. But a few years ago, the peer-educators and homecare workers - some of whom are HIV positive themselves - started a proper choir to provide moral and spiritual support to their clients and to one another. Even though their work is challenging, the songs are about the joy of living.
